WHY LIVING IN HARMONY WITH NATURE IS GOOD FOR OUR HEALTH

I often think about how we’ve become so disconnected with nature. Our biology is deeply influenced by the world around us. Living in harmony with the seasons can enhance our well-being, boost immunity, and restore balance to our lives. Artificial light, processed foods, and an indoor lifestyle have pulled us away from the cycles that once guided human health and well-being.

As we move through the final weeks of winter, our bodies are naturally shifting. The colder months encourage deep rest, nourishment, and conserving our energy. This is a time to reflect on how we’ve cared for ourselves and what we want to cultivate as the seasons change.

While winter’s slower pace lingers, take time to journal, meditate, and set intentions for the months ahead. Continue eating warming foods and healthy fats while slowly incorporating more fresh greens and lighter meals as the days get longer. The longer days offer a chance to reset our circadian rhythms by getting morning sunlight and reducing artificial light at night.

Spring and summer are coming!  Yay!  As nature awakens, so does our body’s natural drive for renewal.  Spring is the time to cleanse your system.  Eating seasonal greens like dandelion, arugula, sprouts, etc. are great foods to support liver detoxification.  Also, this is the time to get outdoors to walk (barefoot on the earth is wonderful), hike, get that natural sunlight to fuel your mitochondria or engage in whatever outdoor activity you enjoy.  Remember, exercising outside is optimal to support your health.  Indoor activity under artificial light is not optimal.  See if you can wake up earlier to take advantage of the increase in daylight.

And, this is the time Vitamin D is available.  Download a free app called Dminder to be able to track your vitamin d status.  Remember, Vitamin D is crucial for optimal health.

When we live in sync with the seasons, we create a natural flow that supports our health on every level—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Start small by making seasonal shifts in your diet, movement, and daily routines, and observe how your body responds.

And, lastly, remember overall good health means skin health as well.  Everything is connected.
